How to respond to rizz

He sent a line. You do not have to fold, flee, or marry him. Here is how to volley it back.

When he rizzes you up, your job is not to reward him with a medal for being bold. Your job is to decide whether you like the energy and, if you do, hand it back with a little personality. Think volley, not submission.

If you want to flirt back

  • ·To 'You’re trouble': 'Only for people who can keep up.'
  • ·To 'How are you still single?': 'Selective. It’s a condition.'
  • ·To 'You’re gorgeous': 'Thank you. I had a feeling you had good taste.'
  • ·To 'I think we’d look good together': 'That is a very testable theory.'
  • ·To 'Can I take you out?': 'You can. What did you have in mind?'
  • ·To a very smooth line: 'Okay, that was better than I expected. Don’t get comfortable.'

If you like him but want to keep it softer

A simple 'You’re sweet', 'That made me smile', or 'I’ll take that compliment' is enough. You do not have to become a banter machine to prove you are interested. Warm and clear beats a borrowed persona every time.

If the rizz is not rizzing

You are allowed to decline the bit. Try 'Bold opener', then change the subject if you want to keep it friendly; or say 'Haha, I’m not really on that wavelength' if you do not. If his flirting is sexual too early, ignores your response, or only appears after midnight, do not confuse pressure with chemistry.

The best reply is not the cleverest one. It is the one that preserves your actual standards.

For compliments specifically, see how to respond when he calls you pretty. And if his message needs more context than a one-liner, Reply or Run can read the whole thread with you.

Match your reply to his level of effort

If he sends a funny, thoughtful opener, a funny, thoughtful response keeps the door open. If he sends one lazy line after disappearing for a week, you do not have to reward it with a full flirt routine. You can be pleasant without acting as though nothing happened: 'Hey, you. How have you been?' puts the ball back in his court without pretending the silence was invisible.

And if he asks you out, answer the actual question. A simple yes plus a practical detail is much more effective than trying to out-rizz someone who has already made a clear move.
