How to text your crush

You do not need to be mysterious or hilarious. You need an opener that sounds like a real person and a plan before the chat gets stale.

Texting your crush feels high-stakes because your brain has put the entire future of romance inside one blue bubble. It is not. It is one opening. Your only job is to make it easy for them to answer and then see whether they want to keep meeting you there.

Start with something you can both talk about

  • ·'I need a ruling: is [specific thing] overrated or am I just wrong?'
  • ·'You mentioned [thing] — did you ever end up doing it?'
  • ·'This reminded me of you and I need you to know I’m annoyed about it.'
  • ·'Okay, I’m trusting your taste: what should I watch/listen to/read next?'

Keep the middle easy

Do not interview him. Offer little pieces of yourself alongside questions. If he says he had a chaotic day, tell a short relevant story rather than replying only 'why?' If he tells a joke, react and give him a playful return. A good text conversation is a rally, not a customer-service form.

Flirt, then make it real

Once there is momentum, try a light line: 'You’re surprisingly easy to talk to' or 'I feel like you’d be more entertaining in person.' If he meets it, suggest a plan. Do not let three weeks of excellent texting substitute for discovering whether you enjoy each other offline.

A crush is not a test you pass with perfect wording. It is a person who either joins the conversation or does not.

If he leaves you on read, resist the urge to send a second message that pretends the first did not happen. One clean opening was brave and sufficient. For less intense ideas, see what to say after hey.

What to do when the conversation slows

Do not panic at every gap. People work, sleep, travel, and sometimes have nothing interesting to say for a few hours. If the chat has been good, you can restart it once with a real hook: a callback, a recommendation, or a question connected to something you discussed. If you repeatedly have to restart it and he responds without giving you anything back, do not keep turning a dry thread into a project.

A crush does not need daily proof that you are interesting. Let the conversation have room to breathe, then look for whether he returns to it on his own.
